Voices for Animals is proud to announce that our very own Stacey Norris, Houses of Wood and Straw (HOWS) Project Leader, is the 2016 winner of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies (VFHS) Advocacy Award!
Stacey founded the Houses of Wood and Straw Project (HOWS) in 2008 and built a dedicated team of volunteers over the years. Each year Stacey and the HOWS volunteers deliver insulated weatherproof dog houses and straw bedding to neglected outdoor dogs in Central Virginia as well as non-tippable water bowls, comfortable collars, lighter and longer tethers, toys and other comforts to an average of 80 dogs each year in addition to cats, rabbits, goats, and other species.
Thanks largely to Stacey’s efforts, in February 2011, Albemarle County’s board of supervisors unanimously approved improvements to the county’s animal ordinance, including a ban on heavy chains and higher standards for sheltering outdoor dogs.
Stacey received the Advocacy Award at the VFHS Conference held on April 1, 2016 in Charlottesville.
